Power Point Installation

Power Point Installation Melbourne

Running out of power points is one of those problems that creeps up on you. One extension lead becomes two, the powerboard behind the TV is fully loaded, and somewhere along the way you started unplugging the toaster to charge your laptop. In older Melbourne homes — where most rooms were wired with one or two double GPOs and nothing else — it’s a daily frustration.

The challenge isn’t just convenience. Overloaded extension leads and powerboards are a fire risk. And in a kitchen renovation, a home office fit-out, or an outdoor entertainment area, having the right power points in the right locations isn’t optional — it’s essential.

Luno Electrical installs power points for Melbourne homeowners and businesses every day. We know which jobs are a quick extension from an existing circuit and which need new circuits from the switchboard — and we’ll tell you the difference upfront, with a fixed price before we start.

We work neatly, patch any surface damage before we leave, and match our plates to your existing fittings where possible. No loose cables on walls, no visible conduit where it shouldn’t be.

How It Works

  1. Call us or request a quote online — describe where you need the power points and we’ll advise on what’s involved.
  2. We confirm the approach (existing circuit or new circuit from switchboard) and provide a fixed price.
  3. We install, test and issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety. The work is done in a single visit for most jobs.

What’s at Stake

Overloaded extension leads and powerboards are among the leading causes of electrical fires in Australian homes. A powerboard with six devices drawing significant load wasn’t designed for that — it gets warm, the plastic degrades, and eventually something gives. Adding a proper power point to the wall, on a correctly protected circuit, costs far less than the alternative.

For homes being sold or renovated, non-compliant wiring can delay or prevent settlement. All power point work in Victoria requires a Certificate of Electrical Safety — a document that protects you legally and verifies the work was done correctly.

What Good Looks Like

Every power point in the right place. No extension leads in the way, no powerboards stacked up behind the entertainment unit, no unplugging one thing to charge another. Your kitchen has the outlets it needs for every appliance you actually use. Your home office has dedicated power where your desk is. Your outdoor entertaining area has a weatherproof GPO exactly where the BBQ is.

That’s what a proper power point installation looks like — and Luno Electrical delivers it in a single visit.

Commercial power point installations are a core part of our office fit-out, retail and hospitality work. We install under-desk power, kitchen and servery power, POS terminal outlets, and outdoor power for alfresco areas — all to Australian standards with full compliance documentation. We co-ordinate with builders and fit-out managers to get power roughed-in at the right stage.

Power Point Installation FAQs

No. All electrical wiring work in Victoria — including adding or moving power points — must be carried out by a licensed electrician. DIY power point installation is illegal, voids your home insurance, and must be rectified before a property sale.
A standard double GPO added to an existing circuit typically costs $150–$280 installed, including the Certificate of Electrical Safety. Outdoor, USB-combination or dedicated circuit outlets cost more. We provide a fixed price before starting any work.
As a guide: at least one double GPO for every 600–900mm of bench run, dedicated 20A outlets for the oven and cooktop, a separate outlet for the dishwasher, and at least one GPO in the island bench if you have one. We design kitchen power layouts during the quoting process.

What our customers say

Andrew and the team installed a Tesla wall charger at my home. They did an outstanding job and went over and above to make sure everything was done professionally and worked properly. Before finding Luno I spoke to many electricians and they often hadn’t done an electric car home charger installation before and didn’t seem to know what was involved. Andrew and the team at Luno quickly put me at ease because it was clear they knew how to install electric car charging. Would highly recommend.

Andrew and Alex were very professional and friendly, they took measures to not leave mess and tidied up after themselves. They were thorough in asking if we wanted switches changed etc to look the best. We love our new fans and bathroom heating light. Thank you
